Everton defender Cuco Martina stretchered off in Europa League clash

Defender Cuco Martina has been stretchered off during the first half of Everton's Europa League clash with Lyon.

In the 39th minute of the game in France, Martina landed awkwardly in a challenge with winger Maxwel Cornet and appeared unable to move in the immediate aftermath of the incident.

The 28-year-old received around seven minutes of treatment from medical personnel, as well as being put in a neck brace, before being stretchered off the pitch to warm applause from both sets of supporters.

Martina - who was making his ninth start for the Toffees since a summer move from Southampton - was eventually substituted with Muhamed Besic coming on in his place.

Everton realistically need to beat the Ligue 1 side in order to maintain hopes of progressing through to the last 32.
