Bulgaria sack Lothar Matthaeus

Lothar Matthaeus has been sacked as manager of Bulgaria after failing to guide them to qualification for the European Championships in 2012.

The Eastern European country have won just once match in qualifying Group G, including a recent 3-0 loss to England in Sofia.

Matthaeus, 50, was Bulgaria's first ever foreign coach.

He has also had a spell in charge of the Hungarian national team.
