England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford says that he is confident ahead of the Three Lions' World Cup campaign.

England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has said that he is confident ahead of the Three Lions' World Cup campaign.

Everton stopper Pickford was selected as one of three goalkeepers for the tournament, alongside Stoke City's Jack Butland and Burnley's Nick Pope.

The Toffees man, speaking to The Mirror, said that he has "always been confident" of his ability between the sticks and is looking forward to competing in the World Cup.

"I have always been confident, but never arrogant," the 24-year-old said. "I always enjoy playing out from the back. It is just a nice feeling - knowing I am capable of doing it and knowing it is what the manager wants.

"I always play out at the right times. That is the way we are going to play, whether it is a friendly, a qualifier or the actual World Cup."

Pickford also revealed that he is "over the moon" to have been handed the number one jersey in Gareth Southgate's 23-man roster.

"The number one shirt has a massive history to it, I'm well aware of that," the goalkeeper added. "And now I am part of that history.

"I'm over the moon to be given number one - you can't get away from the fact it means a lot to have it and be top of the pile. Look at the keepers over the years."

Pickford played in all 38 of Everton's Premier League fixtures last season, while also appearing in the FA Cup, the EFL Cup and the Europa League.
