Roy Hodgson unsure on striker cover

England boss Roy Hodgson refuses to rule out calling up another striker as cover for the Ukraine game following Danny Welbeck's suspension.

England manager Roy Hodgson has refused to rule out calling up another striker for Tuesday's qualifier in Ukraine, but admitted that the possibility is unlikely.

Hodgson has lost Danny Welbeck for the crunch clash through suspension, following his booking for kicking the ball after the whistle had blown during last night's 4-0 win over Moldova.

With Rickie Lambert and Jermain Defoe currently Hodgson's only recognised strikers for the trip to Kiev the Three Lions boss is now mulling over a potential new addition to his injury-hit squad.

He told BBC Sport: "We would have to be going way back through the people to bring someone in. They'd be very unlikely to start the game.

"I didn't use Jermain Defoe as he also has a booking. You'd be bringing someone in to cover a cover."

Wayne Rooney and Andy Carroll are among the forwards unavailable to Hodgson through injury, while Daniel Sturridge is struggling to be involved on Tuesday with a thigh injury.
