Young Lions hit nine past San Marino

England Under-21s have thrashed San Marino 9-0 at the Greenhous Meadow Stadium to remain on course to qualify for the 2015 European Championships.

Seven different goalscorers contributed to the rout of the minnows, as Gareth Southgate's men have now amassed 16 points from a possible 18 in Group One.

Manchester United youngster Will Keane opened the scoring on 13 minutes, before Raheem Sterling and Danny Ings trebled the Young Lions' advantage before the 20-minute mark.

The visitors, who beat Wales Under-21s in September, found themselves 5-0 down at the interval, with Jamie Ward-Prowse and Thomas Ince pouncing to earn their team an emphatic half-time lead.

The onslaught continued after the break, as Ings bagged his second of the evening three minutes into the second half, before Sterling followed suit and secured his brace shortly after.

Arsenal full-back Carl Jenkinson got in on the act, hitting his first goal at international level, before Derby County starlet Will Hughes rounded off the demolition 12 minutes from the end.

Consequently, England remain top of their qualifying group, three points clear of second-placed Moldova having played a game less.
