Theo Walcott: 'We want fans to enjoy English football again'

Theo Walcott says that he and his England teammates want to make English football enjoyable again ahead of tomorrow's World Cup qualifier against Malta.

Theo Walcott has claimed that he and his national teammates will try to produce football that England fans can "enjoy".

The Three Lions disappointed at the European Championships as they were ousted at the last-16 stage by minnows Iceland.

The nation's World Cup qualifying campaign got off to a winning start, but they no longer have a permanent manager after Sam Allardyce was sacked just 67 days after being hired.

The former Sunderland boss was secretly filmed by undercover reporters from The Telegraph appearing to discuss how to get around the Football Association's ban on third-party ownership of players.

Ahead of tomorrow's qualifier against Malta at Wembley, Walcott is solely focused on matters on the pitch.

The Arsenal player told reporters: "If you see something on the pitch which is not working, you need to stand up and change it.

"Having that much support at Wembley shows how much faith people have behind us. We want to make people enjoy English football again and the Premier League is the best league in the world.

"We want everyone to stand up and be involved in the game. When the fans are involved, that extra percentage helps."

Meanwhile, Gareth Southgate, who is in interim charge of the team, has refused to confirm which position Wayne Rooney will play in for tomorrow's game.
