Gareth Southgate praises attitude of Daniel Sturridge

England interim boss Gareth Southgate has described Daniel Sturridge's mentality within the Three Lions squad as "excellent".

Sturridge has previously received criticism for both his form and decision-making in and around the penalty area, but he netted during England's 3-0 victory over Scotland on Friday night.

He has started in each of Southgate's three games in temporary charge of the national team and he could be in line for inclusion against Spain on Tuesday night after receiving praise from his manager.

The 46-year-old told reporters: "He is a goalscorer, a talented player and his mentality to working with us has been excellent. Every striker has a slightly different way of playing and he has some brilliant footwork, he likes to drop into different areas of the field.

"He works for the team, he wants to be part of the team. All goalscorers are slightly individual but I don't see any more of that in Daniel than any other forward."

The Liverpool forward has scored eight times in 25 appearances for his country.
