Glenn Hoddle: 'Harry Kane needs 10 England games to prove himself'

Hoddle: 'Kane still needs to prove himself'

Former England manager Glenn Hoddle has said that Harry Kane needs to play in 10 international matches to prove himself.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker scored 74 seconds into his England debut against Lithuania on Friday and is the joint top scorer in the Premier League this season with 19 goals.

"To judge Harry properly you need to see him over 10 international games — and probably 10 back-to-back games. He needs those games to settle in and see what international football is about," Hoddle wrote in the Daily Mail.

"What I will say is that from what I've seen of him over the past 12 months, stepping up from Under-21 level to the Tottenham first team, to the Europa League and now to full international level, he has looked comfortable at every stage."

Kane looks likely to start in England's friendly against Italy on Tuesday, following Danny Welbeck's withdrawal from the squad through injury.
