Video: Roy Hodgson, Wayne Rooney make England fan appeal

England manager Roy Hodgson and captain Wayne Rooney have appealed to supporters to "behave themselves" following scenes of violence before, during and after their Euro 2016 opener against Russia on Saturday.

The Three Lions were held to a 1-1 draw in Marseille courtesy of a last-minute Russia equaliser, but it was events off the field that stole the headlines as trouble erupted in the stands following a number of clashes in the build-up to the game.

Reports have suggested that a group of trained Russian hooligans were behind the ugly scenes, but UEFA's executive committee has warned that both England and Russia could face expulsion from the tournament should there be a repeat.

That has led Hodgson and Rooney to make an appeal to the fans, with Hodgson saying: "We are very concerned at the threat now hanging over us. We have worked very hard to get here and desperately want to stay."

Rooney, meanwhile, added: "I'd like to thank the England fans for the great support inside the stadium against Russia. We now have a big game coming up against Wales and I'd like to ask the fans please if you don't have a ticket don't travel, and for the fans with tickets - be safe, be sensible and continue with your great support for the players."
