Murphy: 'Alli will become England regular'

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Danny Murphy has suggested that Spurs youngster Dele Alli will go on to become a regular in the England side.

The 19-year-old has been awarded his first call-up to the senior team for the Euro 2016 qualifiers against Estonia and Lithuania next week.

Alli has made just eight first-team appearances for Spurs so far, but Murphy is confident that the experience of being with the England side will do him good.

"With games against Lithuania and Estonia, it is a good chance to get someone like him in and just be around the place," Murphy told talkSPORT.

"Even if he isn't going to get any minutes, just to see what it is like to be on the big stage, be around the big players and just to get an experience because it is inevitable he will become a regular in a couple of years' time.

"He is a superb athlete so physically he is capable. Obviously he has a lack of experience but the way he has played in the last month for Tottenham has been nothing short of incredible. He has played with a confidence and a strut that you wouldn't expect someone so young to play with and that says a lot about him."

Spurs signed Alli in February from MK Dons but loaned him back to the Championship club until the summer.
