Harry Kane: 'No reason to be downhearted'

England striker Harry Kane has urged supporters not to be too disappointed by the side's performance in their late win over Portugal on Thursday night.

Manager Roy Hodgson opted for a diamond formation in the friendly at Wembley, with Kane and Jamie Vardy up front often being forced out wide as Wayne Rooney came forward.

"I don't think you can judge it on one performance," Kane told reporters after the match. "It's one game, the understanding isn't just going to happen overnight.

"We were asked to play together against Portugal and we won the game. Of course we would have wanted a few more chances and few more shots at goal, but it's something we are still working on so there is no reason for anyone to get too downhearted.

"It's a learning curve. These games were to prepare us for the Euros and I feel they have done that. We'll see what formation the manager picks against Russia and we will just do our best."

England get their Euro 2016 campaign underway against Russia in Marseille on June 11.
