Euro 2016 violence 'leaves Britons hospitalised'

Euro violence 'leaves Brits hospitalised'

A number of British football supporters have reportedly been hospitalised after violent scenes marred the opening matches of Euro 2016.

Fighting has broken out between England fans, local police and rival supporters in Marseille over the last three days.

There was also an incident during the Three Lions' 1-1 draw against Russia when a group of Russian supporters appeared to rush their England counterparts inside the stadium.

According to UK Ambassador Julian King, the scenes left several British supporters needing hospital treatment.

"Number of Brits in hospital overnight. Consular following closely with French authorities," he wrote on Twitter, adding that the embassy is investigating the incident with the French authorities.

The FA has condemned the violence, stating that it is "very disappointed by the terrible scenes of disorder".

UEFA has also addressed the scenes, with the governing body making it clear that it "firmly condemns the incidents in Marseille", adding that "people engaging in such violent acts have no place in football".
