Wayne Rooney believes that England are close to qualifying for Euro 2012 as the team top Group G after their 3-0 win over Bulgaria last night.

Wayne Rooney believes that England are close to qualifying for Euro 2012 after the team went three points clear at the top of Group G following their 3-0 win over Bulgaria last night.

Gary Cahill put the away side in front after 10 minutes, before Rooney scored twice to extend their lead.

Wales's win over Montenegro at the Cardiff City Stadium sent England to the top of the group, with the Mirko Vucinic-led outfit slipping to second place.

"It was a good performance from the whole team and we fully deserved the three points," Rooney told The Guardian. "We are almost there.

"Wales did us a big favour by beating Montenegro tonight. We've got one foot into the finals. If we win on Tuesday we will more or less have qualified and we are capable of doing that."

Next up for England is a home fixture against Wales on Tuesday evening.
