Peter Shilton backs return of Ben Foster

Shilton urges Foster to challenge Hart

Former England goalkeeper Peter Shilton is confident that if West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Ben Foster returns to the Three Lions, he could give Joe Hart a run for his money.

The Manchester City keeper has secured his number one spot in the national side for some time but it has been reported that new England boss Roy Hodgson may call up Foster, who has worked under the 64-year-old this season following a loan deal from Birmingham City.

"I would like to see Foster come back in and put some pressure on," said Shilton. "Joe Hart could win a lot of caps for England.

"You need a bit of luck through injuries, but he is in at an early age and there is not a lot pushing him at the moment. Unless Foster comes back, you never can tell, certainly he could be there for a while."

Hodgson will announce his 23-man squad for the European Championships next Wednesday.
