Pearce urges England appointment

Stuart Pearce thinks that the England players "need to know" who will be coaching them in the European Championships before the end of the season.

England's caretaker manager Stuart Pearce believes that the potential members of the Three Lions' Euro 2012 squad "need to know" who their manager is before the end of the season.

The squad for this summer's European Championships is expected to be announced on May 10, just three days before the close of the Premier League season.

While reports have suggested that the Football Association will appoint Fabio Capello's successor in the next few weeks, Pearce has reiterated the urgency of the decision.

"I have no idea whether I will be selecting [the squad] but I fully expect, whether it is me or the next man, he will be selecting the squad around that time," said Pearce. "The season ends on May 13 and the players need to know."

England will face international friendlies against Norway and Belgium at the end of May in preparation for the tournament.
