Ten-man VVV Venlo could not hold on for victory at Emmen as Stef Gronsveld’s second-half equaliser forced a 1-1 draw at De Oude Meerdijk.
Fifth-placed VVV made a bright start as Peniel Mlapa headed in a cross in the 14th minute, but centre-back Roel Janssen soon saw red following a VAR review of his foul on Alexander Bannink.
Hilal Ben Moussa went close for Emmen before the break and Reuven Niemeijer had the ball in the net in the 52nd minute, only for the offside flag to go up.
The hosts would keep pushing and Gronsveld levelled in the 65th minute.
