Alexander Meier inspires Eintracht Frankfurt comeback against FC Koln

Meier inspires Frankfurt fightback

A late Kevin Wimmer own goal handed Eintracht Frankfurt a 3-2 victory over FC Koln in a topsy-turvy Bundesliga match at the Commerzbank-Arena this evening.

Goal-shy Koln took a surprise lead through Marcel Risse, but Frankfurt had turned the game around before the hour thanks to Alexander Meier's brace.

Jonas Hector put the visitors back on level terms, but Wimmer's error on 79 minutes gifted Frankfurt three points which see them climb to fifth in the table.

Koln had netted only twice in six games this season, but opened the scoring within 15 minutes when Risse curled a shot into the far corner.

Their solid start to the campaign has been down to a defence which had conceded just three times prior to kickoff, but their back line came under pressure as Timo Horn saved from Meier and Haris Seferovic, and Hector cleared Takashi Inui's shot off the line.

They were breached twice within 10 minutes either side of the break when Meier equalised from Seferovic's skilful cross with the outside of his left foot and then headed Frankfurt ahead from another Seferovic delivery for his fourth goal in as many games.

Hector turned and dinked the ball over home keeper Felix Wiedwald on 66 minutes to pull Frankfurt back, but Wimmer inadvertently flicked a corner past his own keeper as Koln lost for the third time in a row.

The result extends Frankfurt's unbeaten run to five matches, while Koln remain 14th in the table.
