Sports Mole analyses Paris Saint-Germain's 2-0 victory over Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Paris Saint-Germain have defeated Dynamo Kiev 2-0 in Ukraine to progress to the Champions League last 16 from Group A.

Ezequiel Lavezzi broke the deadlock for Carlo Ancelotti's side on the stroke of half-time.

The Argentine forward doubled his team's advantage seven minutes into the second half to wrap up the points.

It was an exciting game of football, and here Sports Mole takes a closer look to see if the result was fair.

Match statistics:

Dynamo Kiev:

Fouls 15

PSG:
Shots 6
On target 3
Possession 48%
Corners 1
Fouls 16

Was the result fair?

Yes. PSG took their chances when they had them, while Dynamo squandered theirs. That was the main difference between the two sides on Wednesday. Perhaps the hosts deserved a goal for their effort and pressing game, especially in the first half, but the Ligue 1 outfit cannot be undermined for playing on the counter in an away game in the Champions League.

Dynamo's performance

The home side were better than PSG in the first 45 minutes and created a flurry of chances. However, coach Oleh Blokhin will rue Dynamo's failure to take them. Lavezzi's second goal in the opening minutes of the second half pretty much killed off the game as a contest, and the Ukrainian giants were left to ponder on what could have been.

PSG's performance

Ancelotti will be just pleased to see his side return to winning ways after their recent poor results in Ligue 1. PSG were on the backfoot for majority of the first half, but they should be given credit for taking their chances brilliantly. Ancelotti will also be happy with Zlatan Ibrahimovic's contribution and with Lavezzi regaining his confidence with two goals.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Ezequiel Lavezzi: The Argentine has had a mixed season so far for PSG and injuries have also impeded his growth and progress. However, the two goals that he scored will certainly enhance his confidence. Lavezzi was also industrious and committed himself into challenges when he was required to.

Referee's performance

Wolfgang Stark made all the right calls and had full control over the players. The German referee dished out a total of eight yellow cards, all of them correct.

What next?

Dynamo Kiev: The Ukrainian giants will host Arsenal Kiev at the weekend in a domestic league fixture.

PSG: The Parisian outfit will be looking to build on this win and get back to winning ways in Ligue 1 against Troyes at home at the weekend.
