Fresh from their EFL Cup first-round victories in midweek, League One duo Doncaster Rovers and Wycombe Wanderers square off at the Eco-Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The newly-promoted hosts meet the Chairboys for the first time since April 2022 when the latter claimed a 2-0 home win in the third tier.
Match preview
Since lifting the League Two title last season, Doncaster have made a perfect start to the 2025-26 campaign, following up back-to-back victories in League One against Exeter City (1-0) and Mansfield Town (1-2) with a statement triumph over Middlesbrough in the EFL Cup first round on Tuesday.
Goals from Ben Close, Damola Ajayi, Robbie Gotts and Tom Nixon helped Donny cruise to a surprise yet deserved 4-0 away victory over their Championship counterparts, and they have been rewarded with a second-round tie away against fourth-tier outfit Accrington Stanley to be played later this month.
Head coach Grant McCann “could not be more proud” of his team’s “top class” performance in midweek and he is now keen to celebrate a third successive victory in League One this weekend, with Doncaster currently one of only six teams in the division who are yet to drop a single point.
Success on Saturday is not a given for Doncaster, though, as they have only won two of their previous 11 encounters with Wycombe across all competitions (D2 L7).
Wycombe have in fact won three of their last four meetings with Donny without reply and they are aiming to beat the South Yorkshire club three times in succession for the very first time.
However, in stark contrast to Doncaster, the Chairboys have suffered defeat in both of their opening two League One matches this term, with a 2-1 loss at newly-promoted Bradford City followed by another defeat by the same scoreline at home to title hopefuls Stockport County last weekend.
Mike Dodds’s side have at least opened their account for the new season in the EFL Cup first round as they left it late to secure a slender 1-0 victory at Leyton Orient on Tuesday, with a 94th-minute own goal by Jack Simpson enough to settle to tight contest.
Wycombe have scored exactly one goal in all three competitive games so far this season, but they have struggled to make the net ripple on multiple occasions for some time, scoring two or more goals in only four of their last 24 matches across all competitions since the beginning of February, something which will need to change if they wish to turn their fortunes around.

Team News
Doncaster boss McCann made 11 changes to his side in midweek and claimed after the win over Middlesbrough that he ‘does not have a second team’, leaving him with a selection headache and forcing him to leave out some key players each week.
McCann will most likely revert to a similar side that began their last league win over Mansfield, with former Wycombe striker Brandon Hanlan and Owen Bailey, who scored a brace from right-back against Mansfield, among those pushing for a recall.
As for Wycombe, last season’s top scorer and League One Player of the Year Richard Kone has completed a permanent transfer to Queens Park Rangers, so Daniel Udoh is set to start regularly up front in the coming weeks.
Josh Scowen is expected to miss the entire season with an ACL injury, and Garath McCleary also remains sidelined along with Bradley Fink and Ewan Henderson, while Magnus Westergaard will have a knee issue assessed ahead of kickoff.
Doncaster Rovers possible starting lineup:
Lo-Tutala; Bailey, O'Riordan, Pearson, Maxwell; Broadbent, Crew; Molyneux, Clifton, Middleton; Hanlan
Wycombe Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Van Sas; Grimmer, Casey, Hagelskjaer, Harvie; Leahy, Abbott; Quitirna, Mullins, Onyedinma; Udoh
We say: Doncaster Rovers 2-1 Wycombe Wanderers
The momentum is with Doncaster heading into Saturday’s contest, with McCann’s side having not lost a league game since the beginning of March, while Wycombe are seven league matches without a win including results from last season.
Both teams will back themselves to claim maximum points here, but Donny might just have enough to edge past the Chairboys on home soil and preserve their 100% record.
