Leeds to pay Derby for Portsmouth's Varney?

Leeds United are reportedly on the verge of signing Portsmouth striker Luke Varney.

The 29-year-old moved to Fratton Park from Derby County last summer for a proposed transfer fee of £750,000.

However, the cash-strapped South Coast club are believed to still owe the Rams £300,000 as part of the deal.

According to The Mirror, all three clubs have now reached an agreement whereby Leeds will pay Derby the outstanding figure and Varney will move to Elland Road within 24 hours.

Varney scored six Championship goals in 30 appearances for Pompey last season.
