Derby County lead Charlton 1-0 at the break, but Jamie Ward could have had more than one goal.

Derby County lead Charlton Athletic 1-0 at the break thanks to Jamie Ward's early goal.

Charlton started strongly and put the home side under pressure in the opening minutes, but a series of chances from Derby ended with them taking the lead after just seven minutes through Ward's shot.

Derby continued to create chances, with Richard Keogh impressing, but Ben Hamer in the Charlton goal was not being forced into many saves.

Ward continued to threaten but put two chances, on 28 and 32 minutes, wide of the post.

There were to be no more goals as the sides went in at 1-0 to the home side.
