Match Analysis: Euro 2012: Denmark 1-2 Germany

Another night of Euro 2012 brought great drama and this time it was Group B's turn to get in on the action.

The so-called 'group of death' left Denmark, Germany, Portugal and the Netherlands fighting for a top-two finish and a spot in the quarter-finals.

It was Germany who secured top spot in the group following their 2-1 victory over Denmark. Meanwhile, Portugal also advance with a 2-1 win over the Netherlands.

Was the result fair?

In truth, Germany were always comfortable. They dominated every aspect of the match and gave the impression that they could raise the tempo at any moment. Denmark simply did not offer much in attack.

Denmark's performance

The Danes defended well with Daniel Agger and Simon Kjaer impressing, but as an attacking unit, they simply were not there. They are a nice and tidy outfit, but unfortunately it wasn't enough on the night.

Germany's performance

To be honest it wasn't great. I cannot work out whether they played within themselves, or whether they were just tired. They dominated possession, but their usual invention wasn't there.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Mesut Ozil: It wasn't exactly a match of spectacular performances, but Ozil's ability and eye for a pass was there for all to see. The Real Madrid man really is a wonderful footballer and he will have a say in this tournament.

Referee performance

Carlos Velasco Carballo had a relatively tidy match. However, he might have handed Denmark a penalty when Nicklas Bendtner was felled late on.

Biggest gaffe of the game

Step forward Thomas Muller. The Bayern Munich midfielder was presented with the ball on a plate by Lukas Podolski after six minutes. However, he somehow fired straight at the Danish goalkeeper.

What next?

Denmark: That's it for the Danes. They have certainly not let anyone down, but they will progress no further.

Germany: The Germans secured top spot this evening to set up a quarter-final clash against Greece.
