Bayern Munich made Champions League history on Wednesday as they recorded their 10th consecutive win in the competition with a 3-1 victory at CSKA Moscow.

Arjen Robben fired the holders into a first-half lead before Mario Gotze doubled their advantage with a superb solo goal early in the second half.

CSKA pulled one back through Keisuke Honda's penalty on the hour, but Bayern sealed the triumph soon after as Thomas Muller scored a spot kick of his own.

Hello there and welcome to Sports Mole's live text coverage of this evening's Champions league clash as CSKA Moscow play host to holders Bayern Munich. We should have some team news through for you shortly...

Unfortunatle there is nothing to play for in tonight's match with regards to reaching the next round, but Bayern will be eager to keep their 100% record going in this season's competition. Meanwhile, CSKA can avenge the 3-0 defeat that they suffered in Germany two months ago.

Bayern are one of five teams who have already booked their place in the last 16. One of the others is fellow Group D rivals Manchester City, while Chelsea, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are also safely through.

CSKA: Akinfeev; Ignashevich, A Berezutski, Nababkin, Schennikov; Wernbloom, Honda, Zuber, Tosic; Milanov, Musa

CSKA SUBS: Chepchugov, Vasin, Karavaev, González, Elm, Vitinho, Bazelyuk

Hosts CSKA have made a total of two changes to their starting lineup as Kirill Nababkin and Steven Zuber come into the side.

BAYERN: Neuer; Dante, Rafinha, Boateng, Lahm; Martinez, Robben, Gotze, Muller, Alaba; Kroos

BAYERN SUBS: Starke, Van Buyten, Kirchhoff, Thiago, Weiser, Hojbjerg, Green

Surprisingly, Bayern have made just one change to their side as Mario Gotze replaces Mario Mandzukic. Ballon d'Or candidate Franck Ribery was not named in Pep Guardiola's squad earlier this week.

Bayern opened the defence of their title with victory against CSKA before the saw off Manchester City 3-1. The Germans then earned 5-0 and 1-0 wins against Viktoria Plzen to give them a comfortable passage into the next round.

CSKA followed up their opening-day defeat to Bayern with a 3-2 triumph against Viktoria Plzen, but they were unable to build on that as they went down 2-1 and 5-2 in back-to-back fixtures versus Manchester City.

In domestic terms Bayern have been virtually unstoppable this season. They're let to lose in the Bundesliga, with 11 wins and two draws moving them four points clear at the top of the table.

It hasn't gone quite that well for CSKA in the Russian Premier League, but four consecutive wins have seen them climb to within three points of leaders Zenit St Petersburg.

RECENT FORM:

CSKA: WWLWWW
BAYERN: WWWWWW

Of course, Bayern are bidding to become the first team to retain the Champions League since it was rebranded in 1992. Judging by the current form that they are in it would be difficult to find another side on the continent that would provide a genuine match for them. They're sweeping aside all before them at the moment.

However, this competition usually has a surprise or two up its sleeve and Bayern coach Pep Guardiola will not be taking anything for granted.

Tonight's other fixture in Group D between Manchester City and Viktoria Plzen at the Etihad Stadium gets underway at 7.45pm BST. You'll be able to follow live text coverage of that one right here on Sports Mole along with every other match this evening.

PREDICTION: Around 10 minutes to go until this match kicks off - how do you see it going? CSKA may well give Bayern plenty to think about this evening, but you would have to be a brave person to look beyond the Germans getting the win.

CSKA coach Leonid Slutsky speaking to UEFA.com: "Our aim is to give as good an account of ourselves as we can. They will always make chances as they are able to create opportunities against any side. We need to make sure we are better in attack, something that was lacking in the first match between the sides."

Five minutes to go and the players are just about ready to emerge from the tunnel and onto the pitch at the Arena Khimki.

The conditions are sure to benefit the Russian side tonight: it's snowing very lightly in Moscow. No chance of this being abandoned though with the pitch looking in okay shape.

The players are out, the pre-match rituals have been completed and it will be CSKA to kick us off. Here we go!

It's been a decent start by the visitors. They've seen plenty of the ball during the opening stages as CSKA chase around for possession.

The first effort on goal is from Bayern as Kross has a crack from 25 yards, but it's a very poor shot indeed as the ball goes out for a throw.

CHANCE! Nearly the opening goal for CSKA! Honda's corner causes havoc in the Bayern box before Tosic's goal-bound strike is deflected away for another corner. However, the hosts can't make anything of it the second time around as Neuer comes off his line for an easy catch.

There's a slight contrast of styles out there at the moment as Bayern's neat passing game goes up against CSKA's more direct approach. The weather is also causing a few problems out there, with the ball occasionally slowing down on the snowy turf.

Something of a half chance for the home side as Wernbloom's header from another Honda corner goes straight into the waiting hands of Neuer.

Despite seeing plenty of the ball, Bayern are struggling to pick a way through the CSKA defence. Credit to the Russians, they've defended doggedly so far and are sure to be pleased with how things are currently going.

GOAL! CSKA 0-1 BAYERN (ROBBEN)

Bayern lead and it's Arjen Robben with the goal! Muller made a good run down the left before picking out his teammates in the middle, and the Dutchman hammered the ball in from close range to put the visitors ahead. Clinical football from the Germans.

That goal has certainly changed the outlook of both sides. CSKA are now looking a bit on the shaky side after a bright opening, while Bayern can smell blood as they go in search of a second.

CHANCE! Robben nearly grabs a second goal for Bayern, but it wouldn't have counted as the flag was up for offside. The winger was picked out wonderfully by Kross with an incisive pass into the box, only for Robben to not get enough on the ball to control it.

Bayern are now passing the ball around with such confidence, such intent. CSKA are doing their best to close the visitors down, but it's not working. It could only be a matter of time before the away side doubles their advantage.

SUBSTITUTION: Not the best news for Bayern as Philipp Lahm is forced off with what looks like a minor knock. Thiago Alcantara comes on in the captain's place.

Still no sign of a CSKA fightback as of yet. Bayern are controlling the majority of possession and look anything but troubled. Dante gets forward to deliver a first-time cross into the box, but it's a poor execution and the ball goes out of play.

This is a bit more like it from CSKA. They're not being allowed to do an awful lot with the ball, though they are enjoying a bit more of it in midfield. However, they continue to look a bit rushed whereas Bayern appear confident as you like when they break up the pitch.

Robben whips a wonderful free kick into the CSKA penalty area, but Dante just can't reach it in time. The CSKA defence completely switched off there.

For all of Bayern's dominance they're still not causing CSKA too many problems when it comes to the final third. The visitors have only had a handful of chances if truth be told. However, they still lead in Russia.

Five minutes of normal time left in the first half. Can CSKA conjure up an equaliser before the whistle goes?

Rafinha puts a threatening cross into the box that Muller almost got on the end of, but two CSKA defenders were there to hoof clear the danger. The home side had to be on their toes there as the forward lurked menacingly.

Just the one minute of added time at the end of this first half.

CHANCE! CSKA create their best opportunity so far as Honda's classy flick sends Musa through, but the striker takes too long on the ball before two Bayern defenders get back and put him off his shot.

HALF TIME: CSKA 0-1 BAYERN

The half-time whistle goes and Bayern Munich lead CSKA Moscow 1-0 thanks to Arjen Robben's 17th-minute goal. If it stays like this the Germans will have broken the record of consecutive wins in the competition with 10.

It wasn't the most riveting 45 minutes you'll see this year, but the visitors deserve to be in front. They've been more clinical when it matters while CSKA have failed to really penetrate their opponents.

You can read a concise half-time report from tonight's game right /football/bayern-munich/champions-league/half-time-reporthere.

Despite his team's one-goal lead you get the feeling that Pep Guardiola will not have been 1005 happy with what he saw during that first half. One thing he is likely to be telling his players is to cause CSKA more problems in the final third. Bayern have been good, but they can be so much better.

The players are back out and it will be Bayern to kick off this second half.

CHANCE! How have CSKA not equalised? Honda sprung the offside trap to be put clear through on the Bayern goal, but the winger inexplicably got the ball caught up under his feet before Neuer came off his line to collect. That really should have been 1-1.

CHANCE! Honda misses a glorious opportunity again! He was picked out inside the box with the goal at his mercy, only to see his poor effort saved by Neuer. It's another staggering miss for the winger.

Needless to say, CSKA have started this second half in very positive fashion. The home fans also have a spring in their step after those two early chances. However, Bayern look like they're just about waking up.

SAVE! Honda tries his luck from the edge of the box with a decent low drive, but Neuer does well to get down low and make the save. It's been a personal duel between those two since the restart.

GOAL! CSKA 0-2 BAYERN (GOTZE)

CSKA may have had the better chances at the start of the second half but Bayern increase their lead thanks to a wonderful strike from Mario Gotze. The midfielder jinked his way through the CSKA defence with the nimblest of feet before firing in past Akinfeev. That was magnificent.

CHANCE! Nearly an instant response from CSKA as Musa tries to get on the end of a cross, but the striker just can't make the necessary contact to put the ball into the net.

PENALTY TO CSKA!

A bit of controversy here as Dante is penalised for handball in the area. That looked harsh as he was so close to the cross when it hit him on the arm.

GOAL! CSKA 1-2 BAYERN (HONDA, PENALTY)

No mistake from Keisuke Honda as he sends Neuer the wrong way from 12 yards. CSKA have a lifeline, though it can be argued that the shouldn't have had a penalty in the first place.

PENALTY TO BAYERN!

Now Bayern have a penalty as Robben is tripped in the area after Gotze had hit hit the post.

GOAL! CSKA 1-3 BAYERN (MULLER, PENALTY)

Like Honda's penalty a few moments ago, Muller sends the goalkeeper the wrong way with a confident penalty. The decision to give it was correct from the referee as Robben was fouled in the box as he tried to convert the rebound from Gotze's earlier effort.

CHANCE! Almost a fourth goal for Bayern as Robben curls a free kick inches wide of the post. Meanwhile, CSKA make their first change of the night as Rasmus Elm replaces Steven Zuber. Just over 20 minutes remaining.

Despite CSKA'S two-goal deficit, the hosts are making a real go of as we enter the final stages of the match. A quick counter-attack ends with Tosic having an attempt at goal, but he can't keep his effort down. It would be no surprise if there are more goals in this one.

The hosts continue to push plenty of men forward as they look to get themselves back in this contest. Bayern may have what looks like a comfortable lead, but they've been second best for decent spells of this second half.

YELLOW CARD: Thiago goes into the book for Bayern after clattering into Milanov as CSKA looked to break following a corner.

OFF THE BAR! Some intense pressure from CSKA ends with Tosic taking aim from the edge of the box, though he can only smash his effort against the crossbar. So unlucky. Both sides make changes as well as Ahmed Musa is replaced by Konstantin Bazelyuk for CSKA, while Javi Martinez comes off for Jan Kirchhoff for Bayern.

Barring some kind of miracle, it looks as if CSKA's chance of getting something out of this game has gone. They continue to surge forward whenever they get on the ball, but Bayern are quite happy to soak up any pressure as the clock ticks down towards the 90-minute mark.

SAVE! Bayern almost put the icing on the cake as Boateng breaks all the way from defence before picking out Robben. However, the Dutchman's shot is pushed away by Akinfeev. Meanwhile, Bayern make a change as American-born Julian Green replaces Mario Gotze to come on for his senior debut.

SUBSTITUTION: A final change for CSKA sees Georgi Milanov replaced by Vitinho.

FULL TIME: CSKA MOSCOW 1-3 BAYERN MUNICH

The full-time whistle goes and Champions League history is made as Bayern Munich make it 10 consecutive wins in the competition with a 3-1 win over CSKA Moscow. The home side made a good go of it in the second half but the result was never really in doubt for the Germans.

Anyway, that's all from me for now but don't forget that we have live text coverage of all tonight's Champions League games right here on Sports Mole so take a look around and enjoy the rest of the evening's action. Thank you very much for your company!
