Croatia's Luka Modric 'to miss Spain match'

Croatia's Modric 'to miss Spain match'

Croatia midfielder Luka Modric is unlikely to represent his country in next week's Euro 2016 Group D clash with Spain, according to his national team doctor.

The Real Madrid playmaker picked up a thigh injury in the second period of Croatia's 2-2 draw with Czech Republic on Friday and according to Boris Nemec, the Spain fixture will come too soon.

"The situation isn't very good. He strained his adductor and may not play in the next game. He should rest and make himself ready for the second round," Nemec told Croatian television. "[His swollen adductor] will take several days to soothe, and the match against Spain is only in or three or four days. That won't be enough."

Croatia currently sit second in Group D behind Spain, who have already booked their spot in the knockout stage ahead of the fixture in Bordeaux next Tuesday.
