Corinthians win Copa Libertadores

Corinthians clinch their first ever Copa Libertadores title after beating Boca Juniors 3-1 on aggregate in the final.

Corinthians have won their first ever Copa Libertadores title following a 3-1 aggregate win over Boca Juniors.

The first leg, which took place in Buenos Aires last week, ended 1-1, leaving six-time champions Boca needing to match or better that scoreline in Sao Paulo.

However, two second-half goals from Emerson ensured that Corinthians secured their maiden Copa Libertadores crown, having gone through the entire tournament unbeaten.

"I am very happy because we know the history Boca Juniors have in worldwide football and in the Copa Libertadores," Emerson told Fox Sports.

"Our crowd represents 33 million fans. Since this year's Libertadores started, we have dreamt of clinching the title. We were all in need of this achievement."

The winners of the Copa Libertadores, South America's equivalant of the Champions League, enter into the FIFA Club World Championships in December, meaning that Corinthians could cross paths with Chelsea in the competition.
