Eduardo Vargas joins Napoli despite interest from Chelsea and Liverpool

Eduardo Vargas is joining Napoli in January despite interest from Chelsea and Liverpool.

Chilean striker Eduardo Vargas has announced he will join Napoli when the transfer window reopens, despite reported interest from Chelsea and Liverpool.

The highly-rated attacker is leaving Universidad de Chile to head for Serie A.

The 22-year-old will move to Italy for a fee believed to be around £11.5 million in January and will link up with fellow South American forwards Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi.

"Yes I will be joining Napoli, a large team in Italy," Vargas told Radio Cooperativa.

"I'm sure I'll do very well there. I know Cavani and Lavezzi.

"I am very happy that everything was tied up quickly, and for me to play in Italy is a dream come true."

Napoli will face Chelsea in the last 16 of the Champions League.
