David Luiz wants to stay at Chelsea

Brazilian defender David Luiz insists that he wants to stay at Chelsea following the appointment of Maurizio Sarri as head coach.

David Luiz has insisted that he wants to stay at Chelsea following the appointment of Maurizio Sarri as head coach.

Luiz only made 10 Premier League appearances for the Blues last term, and was expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer in search of pastures new.

The central defender had a difficult relationship with Antonio Conte last season, but the Italian has since moved on, with Sarri now in charge of first-team affairs at the London club.

Luiz has featured in both of Chelsea's pre-season matches this summer after returning to fitness, and the 31-year-old is now looking forward to playing under Sarri next term.

"I came back to Chelsea to stay here. When I took my decision to come back here from Paris it was to win the Premier League and do something again with Chelsea. I am very happy here," Luiz told reporters.

"I had a lot of time to take care of me last year, so now I'm 100%. I love this philosophy. We play high, with a lot of possession of the ball, in a technical way. The coach is trying to help us every single day to learn quickly his philosophy.

"He does not want me to change as a player. It is the same style – play from the back, build from the back, try to help the guys, try to be in line.

"People know me – I like to be happy, to enjoy my life. We have the best job in the world. The coach comes as a human being. If you're not happy doing your job it doesn't matter if you're a footballer or not. We have to be happy to do our best."

Luiz re-joined Chelsea from Paris Saint-Germain in 2016, having previously represented the Premier League club between 2011 and 2014.
