Fernando Torres has declared that playing alongside Steven Gerrard at Liverpool was the best time of his career.
The Chelsea striker spent three seasons alongside Gerrard, forming a formidable partnership which is remembered fondly at Anfield.
Gerrard played his 600th game for the Reds in the draw with Newcastle United, a landmark that Torres thinks is thoroughly deserved.
He told Liverpool's official website: "I think it's an amazing achievement for him and it is very well deserved. He is a winner and a captain
"I enjoyed playing next to him for three and a half seasons. It was probably the best time I have had on a football pitch. I am who I am now thanks to him because he showed me the way.
"So I am happy for him and I am sure that he will play much more than 600 games for Liverpool."
Torres and Gerrard will be on opposite sides this weekend when the Reds visit Stamford Bridge.
