Rafa Benitez tells John Terry he must compete for his starting place like everybody else, as the Chelsea captain nears full fitness.

Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez has insisted that club captain John Terry will have to compete for his place as he nears a return to full fitness.

After disagreeing on his comeback from injury last week, it seems that Benitez may start Terry in the FA Cup replay with Brentford this afternoon, but must compete with the other four centre-backs for his starting place in the future.

"He has to train normally three, four training sessions to be ready for games," Benitez told ESPN. "Then if the others are playing well, he has to compete [for selection].

"The main thing is if he can train every day he can be ready for every game. After that we will see.

"We have four options at centre-back. If everything is fine they have to compete."

Chelsea take on Brentford this afternoon in an FA Cup fourth-round replay.
