Chelsea injury news: Filip Jorgensen forced off during Denmark Under-21s game

Chelsea summer arrival suffers injury on international duty

Chelsea seemingly have a concern over the availability of goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen ahead of Sunday's Premier League fixture at Liverpool.

The Blues will make the trip to Anfield sitting four points adrift of the leaders in the Premier League standings, albeit on a six-game unbeaten run.

Head coach Enzo Maresca will already be forced into two changes for that game courtesy of suspensions to two of his key defenders.

As such, the Italian could do without further selection headaches ahead of their biggest fixture of the season thus far, even if it involves players who are not in line to start the contest on Merseyside.

Nevertheless, it appears that Jorgensen is not certain to take his place on the substitutes' bench at the weekend.

What happened?

During the first half of Euro 2025 Under-21 qualifier between Denmark Under-21s and Iceland Under-21s, Jorgensen was involved in a collision with another player.

Although he was able to reach the break, the 22-year-old was withdrawn at half time and replaced by Cremonese stopper Andreas Jungdal.

Jorgensen will now be assessed by Chelsea's medical staff when he returns to Cobham over the next 24 hours, but it appears that he has avoided serious injury.

According to Kieran Gill of the Daily Mail, who was citing a colleague from local media, the withdrawal was more of a precaution.

He said: "Filip Jorgensen was forced off injured tonight for Denmark's Under-21s after a collision. Friend who works for a Danish publication spoke with manager afterwards and was told he substituted Chelsea's goalkeeper as a precaution.

"Will be assessed once back in London but hopefully fine."

Why Jorgensen remains important member of squad

Jorgensen ditched his permanent role between the sticks at Villarreal in the summer knowing that he would only be regarded as backup to Robert Sanchez upon his arrival at Stamford Bridge.

However, the move came with the promise of featuring in the cup competitions, and Jorgensen has already started four games in the EFL Cup and Conference League.

Between now and the November international break, Chelsea face games with Panathinaikos and Noah in continental action, either side of an away EFL Cup fourth round tie versus Newcastle United.
