Fenerbahce thrown out of Champions League

Fenerbahce have been thrown out of this year's Champions League competition amid an ongoing match-fixing scandal.

The draw for the group stages of the tournament takes place in Monaco tomorrow and UEFA have not indicated how a replacement team will be chosen.

European football's governing body were reported to have written to the club asking them to withdraw, which they refused to do. The Turkish Football Federation then took the measure of pulling the side out for fear of wider punishment.

Thirty people have been jailed in connection with fixing 19 matches in the Turkish league last season.
