Kris Commons: 'Rangers will not challenge for title'

Celtic midfielder Kris Commons insists that Rangers are not good enough to challenge for the title as they bid to return to the Scottish Premiership.

Celtic midfielder Kris Commons has claimed that Rangers are "nowhere near" good enough to challenge for the Scottish Premiership title next season.

Rangers are bidding to return to the top flight by securing promotion through the playoffs, but Commons believes that their rivals will struggle to become title contenders.

"It's hard to say. First of all, they have got to get up," Commons told reporters. "Secondly, they have got to sign some players that are worthy of challenging us. I think they are nowhere near that at the minute.

"That's all ifs and buts. That might take six months, it might take six weeks.

"But, when any new manager comes in, no matter how good or bad, you will get a reaction from players wanting to make an impression. I think that's why they have had a little turn in events."

Stuart McCall's side are currently second in the Scottish Championship.
