Celtic confirm Jonny Hayes broken leg in win over Dundee

Celtic announce that winger Jonny Hayes suffered a broken leg in the Scottish Premiership win at Dundee on Boxing Day.

Celtic have confirmed that Jonny Hayes suffered a broken leg in the Scottish Premiership game against Dundee on Boxing Day.

The winger was injured in a clash with Josh Meekings during the visitors' 2-0 win at Dens Park, which led to both players being substituted after 28 minutes.

Hoops manager Brendan Rodgers was hopeful after the game that Hayes had only suffered bruising to his shin, but tests confirmed that the 30-year-old had broken his leg.

"Celtic Football Club has to report that, regrettably, Jonny Hayes suffered a broken leg during the game against Dundee at Dens Park," the club said in a statement.

"Jonny had surgery today and will now be out for some time as he begins the long road back to full fitness. He will make a full recovery but he's unlikely to feature again this season.

"He will receive the best care and attention throughout the months ahead, while the thoughts and best wishes of everyone at Celtic and, indeed, the whole Celtic family, are with Jonny. "

The 30-year-old has started eight Celtic matches this season and has come on as a substitute in a further 12 games.
