Poyet: Perfect start to the year

Gus Poyet believes that his Brighton side could not have wished for a better start to 2012 after they beat Southampton 3-0 this afternoon.

Brighton and Hove Albion manager Gus Poyet believes that his side's 3-0 win over league leaders Southampton this afternoon was the ideal start to 2012.

The Seagulls became the first side to beat the Saints at home this season, courtesy of a Matt Sparrow double and a strike from Jake Forster-Caskey.

"There is no better way to start the year. From a fan's point of view, apart from the win against Crystal Palace, it does not get any better," said Poyet.

"I am delighted with the result after our recent run of results. It is all about decisions and fortunately they worked well so I am pleased."

Last year's League One champions climbed to 13th with the win, which was their first in five games.
