Chris Hughton happy with Brighton & Hove Albion resilience

Chris Hughton is delighted with Brighton & Hove Albion over their response after coming from behind to claim a 1-1 draw with Southampton at the Amex Stadium.

Chris Hughton has praised his Brighton & Hove Albion side for their response after coming from behind to claim a 1-1 draw with Southampton at the Amex Stadium.

The Seagulls fell behind early on to a Steven Davis header before Glenn Murray sealed a point for the hosts just after the break.

After the match, Hughton admitted that he was delighted with Brighton's resolve as they stretched their Premier League unbeaten run to three games.

"The overriding feeling is that when you're down 1-0 so early in the game, you've got to get back into it and I thought we showed great resilience to get through that difficult period and came on to a really good game," the 58-year-old told Sky Sports News.

"I think a draw in the end was probably a fair result. It would've been an injustice if we'd lost the game and we deserved to get back into it. We showed a great response to going 1-0 down.

"I thought we were the better team in the second half and if there was a team who was going to go on and win it, it was probably going to be us. We'll certainly learn about giving away free kicks so early in the game with a player like James Ward-Prowse in the field, who is arguably as good as anybody in the division at free kicks.

"They are the things we have to learn and that will be the case in every game, but we are playing in the biggest and toughest league. What pleased me most was after conceding so early in the game and the response to that. I thought we responded very well and got back into a way of playing and ended up being the better side."

The result sees Brighton climb up to 12th in the Premier League table.
