Bournemouth transfer news: Cherries 'make contact' over transfer for Serie A midfielder but face competition from Premier League club

Bournemouth 'make contact' over move for Serie A midfielder

Bournemouth are reportedly interested in signing Cagliari midfielder Michel Adopo this summer.

The Cherries have only made two new additions during the summer window, recruiting goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic and left-back Adrien Truffert.

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola will be keen to get a number of new faces through the door before the market closes for business on September 1.

It appears that Bournemouth are turning their focus to their midfield, with Sport Witness reporting that they are showing an interest in Cagliari's Adopo.

Bournemouth, Burnley targeting Adopo

The Cherries have already made 'initial contact' over a move to bring the Frenchman to the Vitality Stadium this summer.

However, Bournemouth could face competition from newly-promoted Burnley, who have also made contact to understand the details of a potential deal.

Bournemouth and Burnley are yet to make an offer for the 25-year-old, with their interest said to be in the 'early stages'.

If either of the two clubs decide to pursue a move, the report claims that 'unlikely to cost a high amount' to prise the midfielder away from the Serie A club.

Who is Michel Adopo?

Adopo has spent all of his senior career in Italy, playing for Torino, Viterbese and Atalanta BC, before joining Cagliari on a season-long loan deal last summer.

The Frenchman established himself as a regular fixture in the Cagliari lineup, starting 27 of his 35 Serie A appearances.

Last month, Cagliari signed Adopo on a permanent deal for €3.8m, tying the player down to a four-year contract until June 2029.

However, it remains to be seen whether the chance of playing Premier League football could lure him away if Bournemouth or Burnley decide to step up their interest.
