Dougie Freedman confirms Jay Spearing armband

Bolton boss Dougie Freedman says that Jay Spearing will retain the captaincy for this season.

Bolton Wanderers manager Dougie Freedman has confirmed that midfielder Jay Spearing will continue as captain for the club's 2014-15 Championship campaign.

The 25-year-old skippered the Trotters in his first season as a permanent signing, and Freedman says that Spearing will continue in that capacity, while also confirming Matt Mills as deputy.

"We've built up many leaders in our current group, and Jay and Matt are two of the players who are at the forefront of what we're trying to do here," he told Bolton's official website.

"They both have a very good feeling for this club and know what is required to step up and lead from the front."

Bolton kick off their new season with a trip to Watford on August 9.
