Manager Steve Kean could pay out a fee of around £3.5m for the Bosnian forward in January, according to The Mirror.
The club's attempt to sign the 27-year-old over the summer was thwarted due to his lack of fitness.
Everton manager David Moyes is also thought to be interested in the player.
