Christopher Samba devastated by racist taunts

Anzhi Makhachkala defender Christopher Samba has said that he "felt like crying" after a banana was thrown at him during a game against Lokomotiv Moscow.

The former Blackburn Rovers star admitted that the incident was the "saddest moment" of his life.

"I try not to dwell on racism," said the 27-year-old. "I just want to believe that the problem doesn't exist on a global scale. Maybe I'm mistaken but I want to believe that's the case.

"The incident over the banana was the saddest thing that has ever happened to me in my football career. I was absolutely shocked. I did not expect it and did nothing to provoke it. It was humiliating, I almost felt like crying.

"I think it's a very sad day for football when things like this happen. It's unacceptable and racism shouldn't exist at any level of society."

Samba joined Anzhi in February.
