Wilmots: 'Argentina were ordinary'

Belgium boss Marc Wilmots believes that his side were beaten by an "ordinary" Argentina team in their World Cup quarter-final defeat in Brasilia.

Wilmots's men crashed out of the tournament as they slipped to a 1-0 loss as Gonzalo Higuain scored the only goal of the game in the eighth minute, as the Red Dragons struggled in the final third of the pitch.

He told reporters: "We were not impressed by the Argentinians, they were just an ordinary team. They can distort the rhythm, they take 30 seconds to take a throw-in and the referee doesn't do anything.

"They had the goal, and [Lionel] Messi was one-on-one with [Thibaut] Courtois at the end but how many shots have they had? If I played that way I would have been destroyed by the Belgium press.

"They didn't give us any space, this was a World Cup quarter-final and their extra experience probably counted for something."

Argentina will face the winner of the quarter-final clash between the Netherlands and Costa Rica in the semi-finals of the tournament.
