Vincent Kompany misses training again

Belgium defender Vincent Kompany misses a second day of training at the World Cup after picking up a groin injury earlier this week.

Vincent Kompany has missed training with Belgium for a second day after injuring his groin in their opening match at the World Cup.

The Manchester City defender felt a twinge towards the end of the 2-1 win over Algeria earlier this week, but is expected to be fine for the clash with Russia on Sunday.

Coach Marc Wilmots told FIFA.com: "Vincent felt something in the final few minutes and was not able to sprint 100%. He hoped that resting it overnight would resolve the problem, but it wasn't the case and on Wednesday morning he still had pain in the left groin.

"We decided he would work alone from the rest of the squad for two days with the physiotherapist Lieven Maesschalk and the medical staff.

"All being well, he will be back training with the rest of the squad on Saturday. If there is a problem with Vincent on Sunday there is always another solution."

If Belgium secure a win over the Russians, they will progress to the last 16 in Brazil.
