Kevin De Bruyne hits out at Belgium critics

Kevin De Bruyne claims that Belgium's detractors are a "little bit stupid" for their criticisms over a team that has won three World Cup games.

Kevin De Bruyne has hit back at Belgium's critics for a perceived lack of style in their World Cup performances thus far.

Marc Wilmots's side laboured to victories by a one-goal margin in each of their three Group H encounters to set up a second-round clash with USA on Tuesday.

However, De Bruyne claims that it is a "little bit stupid" to criticise the lack of flair in Belgium's displays, insisting that the result takes priority.

"For us it's about winning the game," he told reporters. "If you score one goal more than the other [team] then everybody can say whatever they want. For me I just want to win the game and go as far as possible.

"You will not find any easy games at this World Cup so I think it's a little bit stupid for people to say they [Belgium] didn't play good. I think we deserved to win the three games and that's it."

Tuesday's encounter in Salvador kicks off at 9pm.
