Bastia sack Claude Makelele

Former Chelsea midfielder Claude Makelele loses his job as head coach of Ligue 1 outfit Bastia.

Claude Makelele has been relieved of his duties as head coach of Bastia.

The former Real Madrid and Chelsea midfielder only took charge at the Stade Armand Cesari back in May this year.

However, following a run of results that has seen Bastia win just two of their 12 Ligue 1 outings this term, the board have decided that the time is right to part company with the 41-year-old.

"The committee of SCB informs all of its supporters and partners that from this day, Claude Makelele is no longer the head coach of SC Bastia," read a statement on the club's official website.

"As of this afternoon, training will be handled by Ghislain Printant and Herve Sekli until the appointment of the next head coach."

Makelele's final match at the helm was a 1-0 defeat away at Guingamp on Saturday, which has left the club 19th in the standings.
