Conference Premier roundup: Bristol Rovers close gap

Sports Mole rounds up Sunday's action in the Conference Premier as Bristol Rovers beat Macclesfield Town to move to within seven points of leaders Barnet.

Bristol Rovers thrashed Macclesfield Town to move to within seven points of Conference Premier leaders Barnet.

Three second-half goals capped off a fine display from Darrell Clarke's men as they capitalised on Barnet failing to record three points at home to Dover Athletic.

Barnet were 2-0 down at the break before goals from Curtis Weston and John Akinde ensured that they didn't lose more of their advantage over the chasing pack.

Grimsby Town missed the chance to overtake Macclesfield in third place after losing 3-1 at home to Lincoln City, while a hat-trick from James Constable helped Eastleigh into a playoff spot with a 5-1 win at Braintree Town.

Woking's recent poor form continued as they fell to a 2-1 loss at home to Aldershot Town, who registered their first victory in eight, with Kidderminster Harriers also losing at home after being edged out by Southport.

Halifax Town were another team to miss out as goals from Matty Brown and Tom Peers saw Chester FC win at The Shay, while Welling United extended their home record to just one defeat in 14 games by holding Torquay United.

The other result of the afternoon saw second-from-bottom Nuneaton Town record a vital three points away at Altrincham but they still sit eight points clear of safety.

Results in full: Woking 1-2 Aldershot Town, Altrincham 0-1 Nuneaton Town, Barnet 2-2 Dover Athletic, Braintree Town 1-5 Eastleigh, Bristol Rovers 4-0 Macclesfield Town, Halifax Town 0-2 Chester FC, Grimsby Town 1-3 Lincoln City, Kidderminster Harriers 0-1 Southport, Welling United 0-0 Torquay United
