The Spanish FA reportedly reject a request from Leganes to make an emergency signing in the wake of striker Martin Braithwaite departing for Barcelona.

The Spanish FA have reportedly rejected Leganes' request to sign a new forward following Martin Braithwaite's departure to Barcelona.

Barca were given the green light to make an emergency signing following long-term injuries to Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele, and landed the Danish international after triggering the 28-year-old's €18m (£15m) buyout clause.

However, the departure of the former Middlesbrough striker, who scored six goals in 24 league appearances for Leganes this term, has left Javier Aguirre's side in a frustrating position in the midst of relegation battle.

According to Cadena Cope, Leganes appealed to the Spanish FA to sign an emergency replacement, however the request was rejected as permission can only be granted for injuries lasting five months or more.

Aguirre's side find themselves 19th in the La Liga table before they travel to fellow relegation candidates Celta Vigo on Saturday.
