Barcelona have confirmed that French international Eric Abidal is currently undergoing a liver transplant.
The 32-year-old entered the operating theatre on Tuesday morning for the procedure which is expected to last eight hours.
The Catalan club are expected to issue an update on his condition once the transplant has been completed.
Abidal was diagnosed with liver cancer in March 2011.
