Azerbaijan appoint Robert Prosinecki

Former Croatia international Robert Prosinecki has been confirmed as the new head coach of Azerbaijan.

The 45-year-old has taken over from Bertie Vogts, who stepped down from the position in October following a winless start to the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.

"I am an optimist and I believe this team has potential. We have to keep on working. After four losses we have to get things back on track and we must beat Malta in March," Prosinecki told reporters during his unveiling earlier today.

It has been reported that following Vogts's departure, Roberto Mancini, Martin Jol and Slaven Bilic were all interviewed for the job.

The Football Federation have opted for Prosinecki, though, who has signed a contract that will expire following the conclusion of World Cup 2018 qualifying.
