Mario Mandzukic: 'I had offers from England'

Mario Mandzukic says that he turned down interest from the Premier League to join Atletico Madrid from Bayern Munich this summer.

Croatian forward Mario Mandzukic has revealed that he had offers to move to the Premier League this summer.

The powerful striker departed Bayern Munich for Atletico Madrid in the summer window, but the 28-year-old has said that he also had the chance to move to England, in addition to Italy and Russia.

"I chose the right path for my career. During negotiations I quickly realised two things - they were very keen to sign me and they were very serious and professional," he told AS.

"It wasn't logical for me to stay at Bayern. I had proposals from England and I think that would have suited my style.

"There were also interesting offers from Italy and Russia but when the interest of Atletico began to take shape, I put the brakes on everything."

Mandzukic has scored six times for Atletico this season.
