Atletico Madrid defender Juanfran close to renewing contract

Atletico Madrid defender Juanfran has revealed that he is close to signing a new contract with the club.

The Spain international has spent the last seven years at Atleti, having joined the La Liga side from Osasuna in 2011, and he appears to be on the verge of extending his stay.

"I'm going to continue at Atletico," he told reports after his side's Europa League win over Sporting Lisbon. "All that is missing is the signature, which is going to be done shortly."

Juanfran has made more than 200 appearances for Atletico and scored three goals during his time at Wanda Metropolitano.

Atleti are on course for Champions League football next term, currently lying in second place in La Liga.
