Athletic Bilbao announce Raul Garcia agreement

Athletic Bilbao have revealed that they have "reached an agreement in principle" to sign Raul Garcia from Atletico Madrid.

The 29-year-old Basque was not included in Atletico's squad to face Sevilla on Sunday, which led to suggestions that he could be heading out of Madrid.

Via an official statement, Bilbao have confirmed that they are close to signing the Spaniard after agreeing terms with Atletico and the player.

"Atletico Madrid and Athletic Club have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of Raul Garcia," read the statement on Bilbao's website.

"The definitive agreement between the clubs and player is subject to him passing the required medical examination and then agreeing personal terms. Once the above are completed, the club will announce a date for the player's presentation."

Garcia is expected to pen a four-year deal at San Mames and will boost a Bilbao side that have lost both of their La Liga fixtures so far this season.
